Strict Response and Instructions to Prepare for Possible Additional High-Intensity Provocations
NSC Attendees "Provocation Carried Out During National Mourning Period... Clearly Shows the Inhumane Nature of the North Korean Regime" Lament
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] President Yoon Suk-yeol strongly criticized North Korea for crossing the Northern Limit Line (NLL) and launching ballistic missiles on the 2nd, calling it a "substantial act of territorial infringement."
On the morning of the same day, President Yoon presided over an emergency National Security Council (NSC) meeting at the Yongsan Presidential Office and made the remarks after receiving a report from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff regarding North Korea's ballistic missile launch, according to a press release from the presidential office.
President Yoon pointed out, "Today’s provocation by North Korea is the first missile launch crossing the NLL since the division, constituting a substantial act of territorial infringement," and emphasized, "Any attempt by North Korea to shake our society and the ROK-U.S. alliance will not succeed."
President Yoon instructed a swift and strict response to ensure North Korea pays a clear price for this provocation, maintaining the military’s full readiness, and preparing for the possibility of additional high-intensity provocations.
NSC participants on the day pointed out that North Korea’s ballistic missile launch was an "unprecedented military provocation" that crossed the East Sea NLL and landed near our territorial waters about 57 km northeast of Sokcho, strongly condemning it as an act that seriously threatens peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
They also emphasized that North Korea bears full responsibility for escalating tensions by violating UN Security Council resolutions, the September 19 Military Agreement, and conducting ballistic and cruise missile launches, as well as rocket artillery and coastal artillery firing.
