Railway Corporation Launches 'Technology Development' for Applying 3D-Based Technology to the Railway Industry
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korea Rail Network Authority announced on the 1st that it will embark on the "3D-based Overhead Contact Line Material Management System Modeling Technology Development Research" to apply 3D technology to the railway industry.
The research aims to develop technology to produce molds necessary for manufacturing key overhead contact line materials (such as fittings) using 3D printing and to simultaneously inspect the produced products with 3D scanners.
The Rail Network Authority expects to drastically reduce the time and cost required for manufacturing and inspection through this.
In particular, by easily producing materials based on 3D data, the Authority plans to prevent the discontinuation of manufacturing technology for high-speed rail materials with low demand, quickly and accurately produce small quantities of materials, and secure stability in railway construction and maintenance sectors.
The Rail Network Authority plans to complete the development by 2024, aiming to apply this technology to projects such as the Honam High-Speed Railway Phase 2 (Gomakwon?Mokpo) and the Pyeongtaek?Osong double-track overhead contact line construction.
