Yeosu City Finalizes Symbol and Character 'Daseomi' for 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo

‘Daseomi’ Character Name Confirmed Through Contest... Actively Used for Island Expo Promotion and Various Events
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Jeonnam Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced on the 31st that it has finalized the EI (Event Identity), including the symbol and character, for the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo.
The symbol represents the diverse marine environment and ecosystem of the islands, as well as the connection between islands, symbolizing cooperation and connection between countries. It expressively embodies the theme, "Connecting Islands, Sea, and Future."
The character is set as an explorer born from the wishes of the islands, with a story of exploring islands worldwide and sharing the records collected through the Islands Expo.
In particular, the character name "Daseomi" signifies the beauty of the 365 many islands that Yeosu holds. It was finally selected through expert evaluation and public and citizen preference surveys from submissions received via a contest.
According to the city, 3,679 people participated in the preference survey for selecting the symbol and character, confirming the strong interest in the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo.
Jeong Gi-myeong, Mayor of Yeosu City, said, "We will actively utilize the symbol and character, which are the faces of the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo, in various promotions, events, and storytelling. We will captivate the attention of people worldwide in a unique and differentiated way to successfully host the Islands Expo."
