Namwon Jeil High School Wins Awards Across the Board at World Food Championship Cooking Contest

[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Young-kwon] Jeonbuk Namwon Jeil High School (Principal Kim Han-tae) announced on the 31st that 18 students from the Culinary and Baking Department participated in the 2022 KOREA World Food Championship cooking competition held at the aT Center in Yangjae-dong, Seoul from the 28th to the 29th, and all of them won awards.

The 'KOREA World Food Championship' cooking competition is hosted by the Korea Culinary Association and supported by 18 government agencies including the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. The competition was created to enhance the pride and confidence of culinary professionals, contribute to the development of the food service industry, and improve the dietary habits of the public.

It is the largest single cooking competition event in South Korea in the second half of the year, held to cultivate world-class food cooking and processing professionals and to share various information for the globalization of Korean cuisine.

Looking at the awards won by Namwon Jeil High School students: Lim Hyun-jun won gold medals in the International Cooking Division for both hot dishes and cold dishes; Lee Yu-bi and Kim Geon-woo won gold medals in the World Cooking Exhibition Division; Kim Min-ji and Lee Seo-hyeok won silver medals.

In the World Cooking Dessert Exhibition Division, Kim Yoon-hee, Kang Tae-kyung, Choi Yoo-jin, Oh Dong-yoon, Lee Seung-eun, Oh Yoo-jin, Moon Hye-won, and Kang Ri-an won gold medals, while Yang Ga-hye and Lim Jeong-in won silver medals. In total, 6 teams won gold medals and 3 teams won silver medals, with all 18 participating students receiving awards.

For overall awards, the school received the Minister of Health and Welfare Award, the President of Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation Award, and the President of the Culinary Skills Association Award. Having participated in this competition for five consecutive years and winning institutional awards including gold medals, the school has grown into a prestigious high school nationwide.

Students in the Culinary and Baking Department competition class at Namwon Jeil High School improved their cooking skills and competitiveness by learning basic cooking techniques during class under the guidance of teacher Choi Jeong-won, and preparing for the competition through after-school and weekend classes.

In the first semester as well, they participated in the 2022 Korea International Cooking & Baking Competition and all won awards. Every year, they participate in national competitions and skills contests, winning excellent awards and enhancing the school's reputation.

Teacher Choi Jeong-won said, "Students interested in cooking prepared diligently for the competition, and their skills improved day by day, resulting in all of them winning awards. As a teacher, I am very pleased and hope the students continue to make great progress."

Lim Hyun-jun, who won a gold medal in the International Cooking Division, said, "The secret to winning was following the teacher's guidance to focus on the basics, make dishes look good and taste delicious, cook on time, and pay attention to hygiene."

Namwon Jeil High School is a specialized high school with departments of Culinary and Baking, Beauty, and Woodcraft. The Culinary and Baking Department offers curricula including Korean cuisine, Western cuisine, confectionery, baking, and barista courses.
