Gwangju City Council Members Mourn Victims of Seoul Itaewon Tragedy

On the 31st, the council members stated in a press release, "Unbelievable news has come. A major disaster that must never happen again occurred in the heart of Seoul, the capital of the Republic of Korea," adding, "Most of the victims were young people who wanted to enjoy the Halloween festival, and among them were citizens of Gwangju. It is extremely tragic and heartbreaking."
They continued, "We pray for the souls of those who lost their lives in this tragedy and wish a speedy recovery for the injured," and "We also send our deepest condolences to the bereaved families who must be experiencing indescribable pain and sorrow."
Furthermore, they emphasized, "The government must do its utmost to promptly handle the aftermath of the accident, support the bereaved families, and ensure the healing and recovery of the injured," and "The cause of the accident must be thoroughly analyzed, and extraordinary measures should be devised to prevent such accidents from happening again."
They also expressed, "We deeply appreciate the firefighters, police officers, medical staff, and citizens who worked hard and dedicated themselves at the accident site to manage this disaster," and added, "Gwangju City should actively cooperate with the government and Seoul City in handling the aftermath and immediately review safety management and crisis response manuals to alleviate citizens' anxiety. The city council will also actively cooperate and participate."
