[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Eun-mo] Dongwon Group announced on the 31st that it has appointed Um Jae-woong, former Executive Vice President of LG Electronics, as the new CEO and President of its U.S. subsidiary StarKist.
New CEO Um Jae-woong graduated from the United States Military Academy and served as a U.S. Army officer before working in sales and strategic procurement at various global companies such as Pfizer, GE, and Merck. Since 2008, he led the procurement organization at LG Electronics for 14 years. Dongwon Group expects CEO Um to drive StarKist's sustainable growth based on his global business experience in Korea, the U.S., Australia, and Singapore.
StarKist plans to take a new leap forward by appointing CEO Um, who has experience in diverse fields including electronics and pharmaceuticals, as its next leader. In particular, leveraging local distribution networks in the U.S. and South America, the company aims to expand its product lineup and diversify its business, advancing from the No. 1 tuna company in the U.S. to a comprehensive food company.
