[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Taewon] ‘4 Aces,’ led by Dustin Johnson (USA), won the team championship, the final event of the LIV International Series held as a team competition.
On the 30th (local time), 4 Aces finished first with a combined score of 7-under-par 281 at the final day championship held at Trump National Doral Golf Club (par 72) in Miami, Florida, USA.
The final day championship was conducted by having four players from the four teams that passed the semifinals play stroke play, with rankings determined by the total number of strokes.
4 Aces’ captain Johnson, Patrick Reed, and Pat Perez (all from the USA) shot 2-under-par 70, while Taylor Gooch (USA) recorded 1-under-par 71, with all four players posting under-par scores.
4 Aces received the winning prize money of $16 million (approximately 22.8 billion KRW), which was divided into $4 million (approximately 5.7 billion KRW) per player.
Johnson, the former world number one whom LIV Golf invested the most money to recruit, earned $17.63 million (approximately 25.1 billion KRW) by winning two titles in both individual and team events in LIV International’s first season, becoming the top money winner.
Punch, led by captain Cameron Smith (Australia), finished second by one stroke. Smith fought hard with a solo 7-under-par 65, but his teammates showed poor performance. Matt Jones (Australia) reduced two strokes, but Mark Leishman (Australia) scored 2-over-par 74, and Wade Ormsby (Australia) also recorded 1-over-par 73.
