Gyeonggi-do Fire Department Volunteer Fire Brigade, 6,460 Non-Emergency Dispatches Including Beehive Removal
A life safety specialist from the Volunteer Fire Brigade of the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters is removing a beehive.

The Life Safety Specialized Unit of the provincial volunteer fire brigade is an organization composed of volunteer firefighters to address the issue of firefighters being dispatched for non-emergency calls such as removing beehives, which are concentrated in the summer season. They are responsible for life safety tasks from June to September every year.
The Life Safety Specialized Unit consisted of 1,397 members from 35 volunteer fire brigades across 35 fire stations in the Gyeonggi area, working in teams of two. From June to September, they worked four hours daily on a regular basis and handled a total of 6,460 life safety dispatches. This accounts for 10.6% of the total 61,133 life safety dispatches in Gyeonggi-do during the same period.
Looking at the dispatch status, beehive removal was overwhelmingly the most frequent with 5,442 cases, accounting for 84.2%. This was followed by hydrant inspections with 763 cases, preventive patrols with 220 cases, animal capture with 30 cases, and other dispatches with 5 cases.

A Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters official stated, "The Volunteer Fire Brigade's Life Safety Specialized Unit has played a pivotal role in responding to life safety dispatches, filling the gaps in emergency dispatches of Gyeonggi-do Fire Services and ensuring the safety of residents." He added, "We will prepare various support measures to boost the morale of the members and improve their working conditions."
