POSCO Construction Launches Carbon Neutrality Campaign with The Sharp Apartment Residents
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] POSCO Engineering & Construction announced on the 28th that it held an eco-friendly energy-saving event together with residents of The Sharp apartments in the Songdo area of Incheon.
This event was conducted over the two months of July and August, when energy consumption is highest throughout the year, targeting 11 The Sharp apartment complexes and households that voluntarily decided to participate.
POSCO Engineering & Construction provided guidelines for the event by introducing energy-saving know-how from experts in the field and offering guidelines from the Ministry of Environment. Among the 9,859 households in the 11 apartment complexes, 536 households, accounting for 5.4%, along with the management offices, practiced energy-saving measures feasible at home, such as setting refrigerators and air conditioners to appropriate temperatures, cutting power to electronic devices, and emptying email inboxes. They also carried out activities to reduce disposable product use and promote efficient waste separation.
A total of 804 cases of easy and simple daily practices such as power saving, resource recycling, participation in eco-friendly programs, and water saving, along with photos and videos submitted by participants, were shared through an online platform. After the event, outstanding complexes and households were selected by evaluating online activity performance and reductions in electricity and water usage compared to the previous year, and eco-friendly practice apartment certification plaques were awarded to the outstanding complexes.
Analysis of bills from participating households during the event period showed that, compared to other households of the same size, they used on average 25.4% less electricity, and saved about 10,000 KRW per household in electricity bills, a 9.4% reduction compared to the same month last year.
