Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong Honors Late Chairman Lee's Achievements During Lunch with Presidents
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] The 2nd anniversary memorial service for the late Lee Kun-hee, Chairman of Samsung Electronics, was held on the morning of the 25th at the family gravesite located in Imok-dong, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do.
Attendees included Hong Ra-hee, former director of the Samsung Museum of Art Leeum, Lee Jae-yong, Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics, Lee Boo-jin, President of Hotel Shilla, Lee Seo-hyun, Chairwoman of the Samsung Welfare Foundation and Advisor of Samsung Global Research, and Kim Jae-yeol, President of the International Skating Union.
More than 300 executives, including current and former presidents and vice presidents such as Han Jong-hee, Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics, Jeon Young-mook, President of Samsung Life Insurance, and Ko Jung-seok, President of Samsung C&T, also visited the gravesite sequentially to pay their respects. The memorial service was held in a private format with only family members and executives participating, without any separate memorial events, similar to the 1st anniversary.
The late Chairman Lee passed away at the age of 78 on October 25, 2020, at Samsung Medical Center in Seoul. He collapsed from acute myocardial infarction at his home in Itaewon-dong in May 2014 and received inpatient treatment for six years and five months before passing away. Since 2014, Vice Chairman Lee has led Samsung while maintaining the title of ‘Vice Chairman,’ effectively acting as the head of the group.

After the memorial service, Vice Chairman Lee and about 60 current presidents will move to the Samsung Human Resources Development Center located in Yongin-si to watch a memorial video for the late Chairman Lee’s 2nd anniversary and have lunch together.
