On the 24th, Kim appeared as a witness at the National Assembly’s Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting Committee’s comprehensive audit and responded to questions from Committee Chair Jung Cheong-rae. Before questioning the witnesses related to the incident, including representatives from Naver, Kakao, and SK C&C, Chair Jung requested a public apology, damage recovery plans, and measures to prevent recurrence.
Kim stated, "From the time Kakao first started generating revenue, we understood the importance of data centers and prioritized investment in data centers starting in 2018. However, since this process takes 4 to 5 years, I sincerely apologize regardless of the reasons for the insufficient preparation."
He added, "Our goal is to invest more in the revenue area to achieve stability at the level of global companies. Although it will take some time, we will do our best to restore services as quickly as possible."
Regarding compensation, Kim explained, "For paid services, I understand that compensation is being prepared according to or exceeding the terms and conditions. For free services, since there is no precedent, we will quickly form a consultative body including affected users or user groups as soon as we receive damage reports and organize the situation, to provide as much help as possible."
Lee Hae-jin, founder and Global Investment Director (GID) of Naver, and Park Sung-ha, CEO of SK C&C, also bowed their heads in apology regarding the data center fire.
Lee GIO said, "We deeply apologize for the service disruption caused by the recent IDC incident. We followed the manual and restored services quickly, but we are aware of the various inconveniences during that time. We will conduct further inspections and do our best to minimize inconvenience going forward."
CEO Park said, "All SK C&C employees feel a grave sense of responsibility for this incident. I would like to take this opportunity to apologize for the inconvenience caused."
