Gijang-gun Hosts the 16th Chaseong Cultural Festival... A Traditional Culture Festival Where Tradition and Modernity Coexist
Opening on the 29th, a Variety of Attractions and Rich Experiences Await
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Busan Gijang-gun will hold the “16th Chaseong Cultural Festival” on the 29th and 30th at the World Cup Village area, hosted by the Chaseong Cultural Festival Promotion Committee.
First held in 1995, the Chaseong Cultural Festival was held biennially to inherit and develop Gijang’s traditional culture and promote harmony among residents, but it was not held for two years due to the spread of COVID-19. To make up for the regret of not being able to hold the festival, Gijang-gun decided to strengthen the substance this year and hold a more special event.
This Chaseong Cultural Festival will feature 35 programs across five categories: planned events, experiential events, performances, exhibitions, and auxiliary events.
Starting with the Gijang Residents Walking Contest, the opening celebration performance will be held at 3 p.m. on the first day, the 29th.
▲ Tightrope walking performance by Kwon Wontae Yeonhuidan ▲ Demonstration of large kite flying by intangible cultural asset master Bae Musam Jiyeonjang ▲ Korean calligraphy performance by calligrapher Hyo Won Park Taeman will be presented in sequence, allowing visitors to experience diverse and dignified performances by masters of traditional culture.
From 7 p.m., a special concert “A Wonderful Day in October” that will fill the autumn night with emotion is scheduled.

On the second day, the 30th, starting at 1 p.m., the Gijang Residents Art Festival will begin, followed by a youth gathering where Gijang’s young people can showcase their talents and creativity.
From 6 p.m., trot singers including Jang Minho, Kang Jin, Somyung, Jin Simon, Jo Jungmin, and Yoyomi will gather on the Busan MBC “Gayo Best” stage to brilliantly conclude the last night of the cultural festival.
The Gijang residents’ folk games festival and soccer and jokgu tournaments by townships will also be held, adding to the festival’s excitement.

A Gijang-gun official said, “This Chaseong Cultural Festival was planned as a traditional cultural festival where tradition and modernity coexist, and we have prepared a rich variety of sights and activities. Since there are many unique performances that cannot be found in other festivals in Gijang so far, we ask for your great interest and participation.”
