[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] The 'Digital Talent Alliance,' a key hub for public-private cooperation aimed at nurturing digital talent?a core policy of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration?has officially launched. The private sector chairperson is Seo Jeong-yeon, Chair of the Talent Development Committee at LG AI Research Institute, and the government chairperson is Lee Jong-ho, Minister of Science and ICT.
The Ministry of Science and ICT held the official launch ceremony for the Digital Talent Alliance, the central hub for public-private digital talent development, on the afternoon of the 20th on the 5th floor of the 'ICT Innovation Square (Front1 Building)' located in Mapo, Seoul.
The Digital Talent Alliance is a follow-up measure to the 'Comprehensive Plan for Digital Talent Development' and the 'Korea Digital Strategy' announced by the government in August and September. Based on voluntary participation from the private sector, it supports the entire cycle from discovering and nurturing digital talent to recruitment. It operates as a company-centered open consultative body and is composed of three subcommittees focused on talent development, talent utilization, and policy support, led by co-chairs from both the private sector and government. Seo Jeong-yeon, Chair of the Talent Development Committee at LG AI Research Institute, serves as the private sector chairperson, while Lee Jong-ho, Minister of Science and ICT, serves as the government chairperson.
As of the day of the launch, a total of 257 organizations have joined the alliance. These include digital leading companies such as LG and Krafton, advanced industry companies like Hyundai Motor and Sapeon, software-specialized companies such as TmaxSoft, and small and venture companies like Danggeun Market. In addition to the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Employment and Labor also participate jointly.
The Ministry of Science and ICT encourages participation by providing benefits to participating companies. For companies with digital talent recruitment needs, it promotes the operation of an online digital talent recruitment center, joint job fairs, digital competency enhancement training for employees of participating companies, priority provision of digital internship programs, and support for attracting excellent talent through overseas IT support centers.
For companies operating their own training programs and their trainees, the alliance plans to operate a youth mentor group for successful employment and entrepreneurship, provide opportunities to take the Software Competency Verification Test (TOPCIT), and support infrastructure such as educational spaces. In the future, a 'Digital Badge' will be issued by accumulating individual educational histories in cooperation with the Ministry of Education to be used as career proof. For companies operating excellent training programs within the alliance, a 'Digital Leaders Club' certification system will be established, issuing official certificates under the minister's name. Additional support includes extra points for government project participation and free provision of computing infrastructure.
Minister Lee Jong-ho stated, "The Digital Talent Alliance will be the first step in reorganizing the innovation approach, which has been led by the public sector, into a private sector-centered model. I ask for your cooperation in spreading the voluntary participation and willingness for innovation from the private sector to other companies, institutions, and society at large, so that we can enhance the sustainability and ripple effects of digital innovation across Korea’s economy, industry, culture, and all sectors."
