Composer Jeong Babi accused of illegal filming... Prosecution demands 3 years and 6 months imprisonment
Jeong's Side "Filming Under Agreement"... Claims Not Guilty
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] The prosecution has requested a prison sentence of 3 years and 6 months for composer Jung Babi (real name Jung Daewook, 41), who is accused of secretly filming his ex-lover's body. Jung's side claimed that the illegal filming was done with the consent of the partner.
On the afternoon of the 19th, Judge Gong Seongbong of the Criminal Division 6 at the Seoul Western District Court held a trial session for Jung, who is charged with violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (using cameras for filming and distribution, etc.) and assault.
The prosecution requested the court to sentence Jung to 3 years and 6 months in prison, stating that “despite the first victim (who has passed away), a second victim emerged, showing no remorse at all.”
In his final defense, Jung claimed innocence. Jung’s defense attorney emphasized, “Jung filmed videos when meeting the victim with good feelings, but never secretly filmed her,” and “He never filmed against the victim’s will even once.” Regarding the assault charges, they stated, “We admit to the assault in August 2020, but the assault in July of the same year never happened,” and “The August assault was not a one-sided attack as alleged in the indictment.”
Jung said, “I fully understand that the complainant (victim) suffered mental distress due to media reports, and it is my fault for not speaking thoughtfully during conversations before the deceased made an extreme choice,” but maintained his innocence, saying, “I cannot say something that did not happen actually happened.”
Jung was indicted in 2019 for secretly filming the body of his ex-lover and aspiring singer A. A claimed that Jung also sexually assaulted her and confided her suffering to acquaintances before making an extreme choice the following year. Jung is also charged with assaulting and secretly filming another victim B from July to September last year.
At the trial, A’s father attended and urged strong punishment for Jung, saying, “Jung shows no sign of remorse, such as using his phone during the trial.”
The police began an investigation following a complaint from A’s family, forwarding the case with a prosecution opinion on illegal filming but a non-prosecution opinion on rape and injury charges. However, the prosecution dismissed the charges. Later, after an appeal by the family, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office, which was investigating B’s case, reinvestigated A’s case and indicted Jung.
