Jeju Marado 29t-class Fishing Boat Capsizes, Missing Person Still Unfound After Overnight Search
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] A vessel capsized off Marado, Jeju, resulting in four people missing. Rescue authorities conducted an overnight search but have yet to locate the missing persons.
According to Seogwipo Coast Guard on the 19th, a report was received around 3 a.m. the previous day that the Seogwipo-registered nearshore longline fishing vessel A (29 tons) capsized 6.8 km southwest off Marado, Seogwipo City, Jeju.
When the coast guard arrived at the scene after receiving the report, vessel A was overturned, showing only its bottom.
The coast guard dispatched patrol ships, special forces, and rescue teams to the scene, and requested cooperation from related agencies such as the navy and nearby vessels to conduct search operations.
By 7 a.m. that day, a total of 32 ships and 4 aircraft were deployed, dropping flares and conducting an overnight search within a 36 km radius based on drift prediction results, but the missing persons have not yet been found.
On the second day of the search, 33 ships and 7 aircraft will be deployed to expand the search radius and continue operations.
Additionally, divers will be deployed to install lift bags and attempt to enter the cabins and engine room.
