Ministry of National Defense: "BTS Can Perform Even During Military Service"
Allowed if for the purpose of 'public interest or national-level events'
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] The Ministry of National Defense announced that the group Bangtan Sonyeondan (BTS) will be able to participate in 'public interest or national-level events' even during their military service.
Moon Hong-sik, Acting Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, stated at a regular briefing on the 18th regarding the scope of performances allowed after BTS's enlistment, "If there are national events for public interest purposes or events conducted at the national interest level, and if the individual wishes, we intend to provide the opportunity to participate."
He added, "I understand that even now, some enlisted soldiers are given such opportunities when they arise."
Previously, Defense Minister Lee Jong-seop had indicated that BTS might be able to perform overseas during military service 'at the national interest level,' raising attention to whether a new system would be introduced. This confirms the principle that performances during military service are currently possible.
