Yongin City announced on the 17th that it decided to operate the special quarantine period proactively to respond to the high-risk occurrence of highly pathogenic avian influenza and foot-and-mouth disease during winter, following the recent detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza virus in wild birds in Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do.
Accordingly, the city has issued administrative orders to livestock farms to comply with quarantine rules such as applying slaked lime, checking and storing disinfection certificates, using disposable paper egg trays (for layer farms), and cleaning and disinfecting rice husk spreaders.
In addition, to prevent the occurrence and inflow of AI during the special quarantine period, the city operates one base disinfection facility and designates dedicated officers for poultry farms to conduct phone inspections for each farm, and conducts surveillance and testing at each farm through specialized avian veterinarians.
Furthermore, 11 vehicles from the joint quarantine team will be deployed to disinfect migratory bird habitats, surrounding roads, and roads near farms.
In particular, to prevent foot-and-mouth disease, vaccination is being carried out this month targeting cattle, goats, and other cloven-hoofed livestock farms. The city plans to impose fines on farms with low antibody positivity rates or low vaccination participation rates after inspecting the quarantine status of each farm.
The city also issued an administrative order restricting the movement of cattle and pig manure outside designated areas from next month until February next year to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease between farms.
