Kakao Launches 'Emergency Response Committee' for Data Center Fire
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Choi] Kakao has launched an Emergency Response Committee related to the fire at the Pangyo data center.
Kakao announced on the 16th that it will convert the response control tower, which had been operating since immediately after the fire at the Pangyo SK C&C data center on the 15th, composed of executives and heads of each division, into an "Emergency Response Committee." The chairman will be Hong Eun-taek, head of the Kakao Community Center, and leaders from the headquarters and major subsidiaries are expected to participate.
The Emergency Response Committee is composed of three subcommittees: the Cause Investigation Subcommittee, the Disaster Response Subcommittee, and the Compensation Measures Subcommittee. The Cause Investigation Subcommittee will ascertain the exact facts regarding the cause of the data center fire, the delay in power supply, and the recovery process. The Disaster Response Subcommittee will develop stringent measures to prevent similar incidents from recurring based on these findings and will implement them after consulting with external experts.
Additionally, the Compensation Measures Subcommittee will establish compensation policies for all stakeholders, including users and partners who experienced damage due to this disruption. A channel for reporting damages will be set up next week to begin accepting damage reports. Discussions regarding the scope and eligibility for compensation will be conducted based on the reported information.
Hong Eun-taek, head of the Kakao Community Center, said, "We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by this incident and are making every effort to restore services to normal." He added, "We take the concerns of the relevant authorities more seriously than ever and will cooperate faithfully with investigations and requests, prepare stringent measures to prevent recurrence, and also plan to prepare compensation policies for those affected by this incident."
