Actor Kang Ji-hwan, 5.3 Billion Won Compensation Ruling Confirmed Against 'Joseon Survival' Production Company
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo Seong-pil] Actor Kang Ji-hwan (real name Jo Tae-gyu, 45), who was found to have sexually assaulted outsourced staff and subsequently left a drama mid-production, and his former agency have been ordered by the Supreme Court to pay a total of 5.3 billion won to the drama production company.
According to the legal community on the 12th, the Supreme Court's 2nd Division (Presiding Justice Cho Jae-yeon) dismissed the appeals of Kang and Jellyfish Entertainment without oral argument in the unjust enrichment refund lawsuit filed by Studio Santa Claus Entertainment against Kang and Jellyfish. Accordingly, the original ruling ordering Kang and Jellyfish to pay Studio Santa Claus a total of approximately 5.38 billion won was upheld.

Previously, on July 9, 2019, Kang was prosecuted on charges of forcibly molesting one outsourced staff member and sexually assaulting another during a gathering with the drama 'Joseon Survival' staff at his home. He was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison with a 3-year probation. Due to this incident, Kang left the drama 'Joseon Survival,' which was scheduled for 20 episodes, after episode 12, and the remaining scenes were filmed by another actor. Consequently, the production company Studio Santa Claus filed a civil lawsuit in July 2019.
