Gochang-gun Secures 2.6 Billion KRW in Special Grants... Momentum for Current Projects

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jae-gil] Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, has secured 2.6 billion KRW in special grants from central government ministries in the second half of the year, giving a significant boost to the promotion of pending projects.

According to the county on the 12th, special grants are funds provided by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to compensate for special financial demands considering changes in local financial conditions, disasters, and other unforeseen financial needs.

The projects secured for the second half special grants include the Gwangseung Port Pier Construction Project (800 million KRW), Modernization Project for Habitual Freezing Risk Sections in the Hot Spring Tourist District (500 million KRW), Expansion of Gochang Cultural Center Multipurpose Experience Hall (400 million KRW), Installation of Drainage Pump Station in Habitual Flooding Areas during High Tide on the West Coast (600 million KRW), and Morobiri Park Access Road Construction Project (300 million KRW).

This amount is 1.5 billion KRW more than the 1.1 billion KRW (two projects) allocated in the first half, marking the highest amount secured among regular grants in the past five years.

The ‘Gwangseung Port Pier Construction Project’ aims to build a pier at Gwangseung Port in Haeri-myeon for safe fishing activities.

Gwangseung Port is a village communal fishing port with active fishing activities, but the fishing environment is very poor as fishermen currently haul their boats ashore using tractors for docking.

Once the pier is constructed, unnecessary work time caused by transporting fishing boats will be reduced, and safety issues for drivers and pedestrians are expected to improve significantly.

The county plans to enhance the completeness of the project by linking it with the ongoing Gwangseung Port Fisheries Comprehensive Development Project.

The ‘Modernization Project for Habitual Freezing Risk Sections’ involves installing heating cables on the four-lane road in front of Seokjeong Hot Spring District in Gochang-eup, which has steep slopes and shaded sections.

Since about 5,000 people pass through this concentrated traffic section daily, the project is expected to have a significant impact on tourists, residents, and many others.

The ‘Expansion Project of Gochang Cultural Center Multipurpose Experience Hall’ addresses the limited use of the current space, which is too small and only suitable for small-scale education, with many cultural and artistic groups requesting a multipurpose space for performance rehearsals and seminars.

Once the expansion is completed, the inconvenience experienced by residents due to the limited cultural activity space is expected to be resolved.

Additionally, 500 million KRW was secured for the installation of a drainage pump station in Bujeong Village, Asan-myeon, to prevent habitual flooding, and 300 million KRW for the Morobiri Park access road construction project.

County Governor Shim Deok-seop said, “Securing this special grant is a valuable achievement obtained through strategic cooperation with National Assemblyman Yoon Joon-byung,” and added, “We will continue to build close cooperative relationships with the political sector led by National Assemblyman Yoon Joon-byung and central government ministries to secure national funds prioritizing projects that consider the residents’ interests.”
