The prosecution is reportedly verifying the decision-making process of the Ministry of National Defense and the Blue House at the time with former Chief Ahn regarding the case in which Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries official Lee Dae-jun was shot and killed by North Korean soldiers in the West Sea on September 22, 2020.

Shortly after the incident, on September 24, 2020, former Chief Ahn held a press briefing and announced the Ministry of National Defense's statement confirming that "North Korea committed atrocities by shooting at our citizen found in North Korean waters and burning the body." On the same day, he also attended an emergency briefing on current issues at the National Assembly's Defense Committee, explaining the circumstances of the incident as understood by the military.
