KSD "3Q Short-Term Bond Fundraising 250.9 Trillion Won... 22% Increase YoY"
[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] The Korea Securities Depository announced on the 11th that the total amount of funds raised through short-term bonds (STB) in the third quarter was 250.9 trillion won, down 71.7 trillion won (22%) compared to the same period last year. Short-term bonds refer to corporate bonds issued under certain conditions, such as a maturity of one year or less and a minimum issuance amount of 100 million won.
The issuance volume of general short-term bonds was 162.5 trillion won, a decrease of 103.7 trillion won (38.6%) during the same period. The issuance volume of securitized short-term bonds increased by 59.6% (32 trillion won) to 85.7 trillion won. Securitized short-term bonds refer to ABSTB, PFABSTB, and others issued by special purpose companies, distinct from general short-term bonds issued by general corporations, securities companies, and other financial institutions. The issuance volume of foreign currency-denominated short-term bonds was 609.8 million dollars, an increase of 20.9% compared to the same period last year.
By maturity, bonds issued within three months accounted for 250.7 trillion won, representing 99.9% of the total. This is mainly attributed to the current exemption benefit from submitting securities registration statements. The issuance volume of ultra-short-term bonds within seven days was 96.8 trillion won, down 52.4% compared to the same period last year. Among these, one-day bonds accounted for 53 trillion won, representing 21.1% of the total issuance volume.
By credit rating, issuance volumes were highest in the order of A1 (226.4 trillion won), A2 (20.5 trillion won), A3 (3.9 trillion won), and below B (100 billion won). The issuance of A1-rated bonds accounted for the majority of the total issuance volume (90.2%), indicating that there has been little change in the preference for safe asset investments.
