According to AP News and others on the 11th (local time), at the World Pumpkin Contest held the day before in Half Moon Bay near San Francisco, a pumpkin submitted by Travis Ginger, a horticulture teacher from Anoka, Minnesota, weighed 2,560 pounds (1,161.2 kg) and took first place.
Ginger said he drove for a full 35 hours carrying the giant pumpkin to the contest venue.
Ginger's pumpkin earned the honor of being the heaviest pumpkin produced in the United States.
Ginger said, "Although the pumpkin crop in Minnesota was not good this spring, such a large pumpkin grew," adding, "It would be like winning the Tour de France on a tricycle."

However, this does not reach the world record. According to the Guinness World Records, a pumpkin grown by an Italian farmer last year set the world record at 2,702 pounds (1,225.6 kg).
