Hampyeong-gun Selected for 'Soybean Convergence Complex Project' Competition
Securing 2 Billion KRW in National Funds, Expanding Soybean Cultivation Area... Full-Scale Promotion of Soybean Industry Including Jangryu and Meal Kits
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Chunsu Kim] Hampyeong County is actively fostering the ‘Kong’ industry as a new future food source for the region.
According to the Hampyeong County Agricultural Technology Center on the 11th, they were selected for the Rural Development Administration’s ‘Kong Self-sufficient Convergence Complex Project’ contest and secured 2 billion KRW in national funding.
The Kong Convergence Complex Project was promoted to develop the kong industry as a long-term alternative crop to rice in response to the decline in rice prices.
With this contest selection, the county plans to expand the paddy field kong cultivation area to 1000 hectares and develop kong-related products such as tofu, jang (fermented sauces), and meal kits.
The ‘Kong Convergence Complex Project’ is scheduled to be implemented over two years from 2023 to 2024.

A center official said, “Rice farmers are facing great difficulties due to falling rice prices and decreased rice consumption,” adding, “We will actively foster the kong industry as an alternative crop to rice to contribute to increasing farmers’ income.”
