[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] Amid the ongoing National Assembly inspection of the National Police Agency, Commissioner Yoon Hee-geun stated that efforts are being concentrated on stalking crimes, which have drawn attention following the 'Sindang Station Stalking Murder Case.'
At the National Assembly inspection held at the National Police Agency on the 7th, Commissioner Yoon participated by delivering a greeting and introducing the accompanying police executives. Yoon said, "This year, the police have faced various public security conditions but have done their best to maintain public safety," adding, "We have made relentless efforts to protect the safety and fairness values of our society."
Commissioner Yoon explained that police resources are being deployed to address the recently controversial stalking crimes. He stated, "We are continuously enhancing the response system so that socially vulnerable groups such as women and children, who are susceptible to crimes, can fully enjoy their daily lives. We are focusing our efforts on establishing effective victim protection measures for crimes with high risks of retaliation, such as stalking," and added, "The police are committed to proactively preventing public anxiety factors through meticulous protection and attention to vulnerable groups and crime victims."
He also mentioned that full efforts are being made against fraud and drug crimes. Yoon said, "We are putting all our efforts into eradicating crimes that destroy individuals and communities, such as malicious fraud, known as 'economic murder,' and drug crimes, which are like 'cancer cells of society,'" and added, "We are concentrating investigative capabilities to block crime factors from their roots."

Commissioner Yoon also expressed his intention to actively support police officers who are not graduates of the Korean National Police University. He said, "We will institutionally support the expansion of promotions to senior positions for capable police officers from general backgrounds," and added, "We will support field police officers to focus on their core duties by activating communication with the field, such as through workplace councils."
