New COVID-19 Cases 22,298... Decrease of About 6,300 from Previous Day (Update)
The number of new COVID-19 cases decreased by about 6,300 from the previous day, falling to the low 20,000s.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters on the 7th, as of midnight that day, 22,298 new COVID-19 cases were added, bringing the total cumulative number of confirmed cases to 24,933,756. Among these, 22,244 were domestic cases, and 54 were imported cases.
The number of new cases on this day decreased by 6,350 compared to the previous day (28,648). It was 6,190 fewer than a week ago on the 30th of last month (28,488), and 6,794 fewer than two weeks ago on the 23rd of last month (20,992). Since the peak of the summer resurgence of COVID-19 at the end of August, the rate of increase in cases has been declining.
From the 1st to this day, the daily new cases over the past week were 26,650 → 23,345 → 12,011 → 16,310 → 34,665 → 28,566 → 22,244, averaging 23,539 cases per day.
The number of critically ill patients hospitalized increased by 4 from the previous day to 329. Over the past week from the 1st to this day, the number of critically ill patients recorded was 356 → 353 → 361 → 353 → 333 → 325 → 329. The nationwide critical care bed occupancy rate is 18.5%, with 19.0% in the metropolitan area and 17.3% in non-metropolitan areas.
The number of COVID-19 deaths reported the previous day was 41, an increase of 12 from the day before. By age group, those aged 80 and above accounted for the most deaths at 28, followed by 6 in their 70s, 4 in their 60s, and 1 each in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. The total cumulative deaths stand at 28,614, with a fatality rate of 0.11%.
