Gwangju Seo-gu Council Passes Original Draft of 'Asbestos Safety Management and Support Ordinance'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] The Seo-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 6th that the "Partial Amendment Ordinance on Asbestos Safety Management and Support in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City," which was proposed by Seo-gu Councilor Jeon Seung-il during the 306th 1st regular session, was approved as originally proposed in the plenary session.
This legislation was enacted to manage asbestos safely and transparently by reflecting the matters delegated by law in the relevant ordinance following the enforcement of the amended Asbestos Safety Management Act on June 10, and by newly establishing provisions regarding the formation and roles of the Asbestos Safety Resident Monitoring Group.
Councilor Jeon said, "I proposed this ordinance to prevent damage that may occur due to asbestos at construction sites such as housing redevelopment, reconstruction projects, and residential environment improvement projects," adding, "By specifying all matters related to asbestos safety management, from asbestos dispersion measurement to supervision and waste storage, in the ordinance, I hope that the health rights of the district residents can be fully guaranteed."
