According to the county on the 4th, the ‘Clean Jeonnam Best Village Creation’ project is a Jeonnam provincial policy project that started last year. It aims to manage and preserve the village’s clean resources and restore residents’ harmony and community spirit. Currently, 90 villages in Hampyeong-gun are promoting the project.
Residents of Heungyong-dong Village in Eomda-myeon renovated old fences by raising funds with children who had moved away and repainted them sky blue to create a pleasant village environment. In addition, they hold monthly village meetings to brainstorm ways to create a happy village.
In Samgu Village, Nasan-myeon, they cleaned up abandoned agricultural waste and used the collection incentive money to purchase paint and mural materials to create calligraphy murals with children who had moved away.
They also transformed idle village spaces into communal gardens to cultivate sweet potatoes and plan to help neighbors in need by selling the harvested crops.
In Changseo Village, Haebomyeon, the youth association operates a weekly ‘Changseo Village Neighborhood Walk’ to identify village issues and create a public forum to seek solutions.
Aiming to be a village where anyone wants to live, they created a landmark reflecting the village’s origin and installed stylish handwritten nameplates donated by village residents.
In Bojeon Village, Singwang-myeon, an unused village open space overgrown with weeds was leased and transformed into a communal garden.
Here, residents make and sell sesame oil from sesame seeds they plant and harvest themselves, raising village funds.
Additionally, Baekryeon Village in Daedong-myeon and Jeongyang Village in Eomda-myeon are promoting various community activities through the Best Village project, such as creating village walking paths, resident rest areas, and publishing village newspapers.
The county selected five outstanding Best Villages through an on-site evaluation over two days from the 13th to 14th of last month, and on the 29th, the Jeonnam Best Village evaluation team visited the outstanding cases for assessment.
The evaluation team, composed of external experts, checked project achievements and community activity records and provided consulting for next year’s project plans.
