At the National Assembly National Defense Committee's Audit, "The Security Situation on the Korean Peninsula Is Very Serious"
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] Defense Minister Lee Jong-seop stated on the 4th, "Our military is establishing and promoting defense operation priorities to realize 'peace through strength and deterrence' based on a strong ROK-US alliance."
Minister Lee reported this during his opening remarks at the National Assembly National Defense Committee's audit held at the Yongsan Ministry of National Defense building on the same day, saying, "The security situation on the Korean Peninsula is very severe."
He assessed, "North Korea is seriously threatening the security order in the region, including the Korean Peninsula, by advancing its nuclear and missile capabilities and legalizing the 'nuclear force policy,' which formalizes the preemptive use of tactical nuclear weapons."
Minister Lee emphasized, "In preparation for North Korea's provocations, we are maintaining a firm military readiness posture and enhancing extended deterrence execution capability through close ROK-US cooperation," adding, "We are dramatically strengthening the capabilities and posture of the 'Korean-style 3-axis system.'"
Regarding the construction of an advanced science and technology military through 'Defense Innovation 4.0,' Minister Lee explained, "We are gradually establishing AI (artificial intelligence)-based manned-unmanned complex systems, while also enhancing operational capabilities in new domains such as space, cyber, and electromagnetic fields." He further stated, "We are developing the ROK-US alliance in a 'leap-forward' manner and deepening and expanding defense cooperation with allied countries," implying an expansion of security cooperation with Japan.
