On the 23rd (local time), the U.S. team secured a one-sided victory with 3 wins and 2 draws against the International team in the four-ball matches held at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. In four-ball matches, two players each play their own ball, and the better score on each hole counts as the team score. With this win, the U.S. added 4 points to lead the International team, which earned only 1 point, with an overall score of 8 to 2.
Im Sung-jae paired with Sebastian Mu?oz (Colombia) and drew against the U.S. team of world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns.
The U.S. team took the lead on the 5th hole with a birdie by Scheffler, but Im Sung-jae immediately responded with a birdie on the next hole to tie. The U.S. team regained the lead on the 7th hole with a birdie by Burns, but Mu?oz's birdie on the 8th hole evened the match again. However, Burns birdied the 9th hole, allowing the U.S. team to finish the front nine one hole ahead.
Scheffler and Burns extended their lead to two holes with a birdie on the first hole of the back nine, the 10th hole. But Im Sung-jae and Mu?oz narrowed the gap by winning the 13th hole, and the match ended in a tie after Mu?oz's dramatic birdie on the final hole.
Im Sung-jae and Mu?oz earned 0.5 points from the draw. The International team’s Mito Pereira (Chile) and Christiaan Bezuidenhout (South Africa) also drew with the U.S. team’s Kevin Kisner and Cameron Young, adding another 0.5 points.
