Elderly people from vulnerable groups facing difficult living conditions had found it hard to receive health care due to restrictions on outdoor activities caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
The district office, Korea University Businessmen's Association, and Korea University Medical Center invited these elderly individuals to Dongdaemun-gu Office to provide professional medical services such as health checkups and served a warm lunch in the district office cafeteria, spending a meaningful time together.
Korea University Businessmen's Association and Korea University Medical Center, which conduct social contribution activities every year to care for socially vulnerable groups and neighbors in need, this year in the second half, through a special connection with Dongdaemun-gu Mayor Ilpyeong Lee and Deputy Mayor Hongyeon Choi, who are alumni of Korea University, carried out volunteer activities for vulnerable elderly people in Dongdaemun-gu.
From 10 a.m. that day, medical professionals from Korea University Medical Center conducted blood pressure, blood sugar, diabetes tests, as well as ultrasound and CT scans directly in the district office multipurpose auditorium. Dongdaemun-gu Public Health Center also conducted dementia and depression tests, carefully checking not only the physical health but also the mental health of the elderly.
After the checkups, Korea University Businessmen's Association served lunch to elderly people who usually eat alone every day in the district office cafeteria, conveying warm hearts.
In particular, Mayor Lee, Deputy Mayor Choi, and Chairman Oseop Kwon of Korea University Businessmen's Association participated together in the lunch serving volunteer activity, adding more meaning to the sharing.
Additionally, a small cultural performance by a trot singer was held, giving the elderly a day like a gift.
