Huawei "Supporting Asia-Pacific Digital Ecosystem... Training 500,000 Talents"

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] Huawei announced on the 23rd that it held an in-depth discussion on nurturing digital talent and supporting startup growth in the Asia-Pacific region during ‘HUAWEI CONNECT 2022 Bangkok’.
As digital transformation accelerates worldwide, Huawei is promoting collaboration and mutual growth across the ecosystem by supporting digital talent and startups. As part of this effort, Huawei hosted the ‘Asia Pacific Digital Talent Summit’ and the ‘Spark Founders Summit,’ sharing insights and best practices for the prosperity of the Asia-Pacific digital ecosystem with government officials, academia, industry stakeholders, and investors.
On the 19th, Huawei co-hosted the ‘Asia Pacific Digital Talent Summit’ with the ASEAN Foundation. Ekkaphab Phanthavong, Deputy Secretary-General for Socio-Cultural Affairs at the ASEAN Secretariat, who delivered the opening remarks, explained the purpose of the event: “This summit is essential for discussing and finding compromises on nurturing innovative ICT talent in the Asia-Pacific region, understanding their current status, resolving difficulties and inequalities caused by digitalization, and deciding the way forward.”
Jeff Wang, Huawei’s President of Global External Affairs and Communications, revealed Huawei’s goals for talent development, stating, “Connecting people and building the next-generation talent pool has become more important than ever in driving digital transformation. Over the past 20 years, Huawei has closely collaborated with partners in the Asia-Pacific region to provide seamless internet access to those with limited connectivity. At the same time, we are steadily progressing toward our goal of nurturing 500,000 ICT talents in the Asia-Pacific region by 2026.”
At the same event, Huawei expressed its commitment as a global company rooted in the Asia-Pacific region to continuously strengthen the talent ecosystem through leadership, technology, and knowledge.
On the 20th and 21st, Huawei held the ‘Spark Founders Summit.’ This event is an annual gathering for startups under Huawei Cloud, showcasing various ways Huawei supports startups in the ever-changing digital world.
Leo Jiang, Chief Digital Officer (CDO) of Huawei Cloud Asia-Pacific, said, “Building on the success of last year’s events in Singapore and Hong Kong, this year’s ‘Spark Founders Summit 2022’ is being held on a larger scale. At this event, government and industry leaders will build consensus on regional and startup ecosystem formation and explore opportunities and challenges across technology, society, and the digital economy.”
Huawei Spark is a global acceleration platform based on Huawei’s technology leadership in AI, 5G, metaverse, and more. It currently supports over 120 startups in the Asia-Pacific region, including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Hong Kong, and has invested more than $50 million (approximately 70.3 billion KRW) over the past 12 months.
Jacqueline Shi, Head of Global Marketing and Sales Services at Huawei Cloud, stated, “Huawei Cloud fully supports startups through technology and digital communities. Furthermore, over the next three years, we will help 10,000 startups worldwide accelerate their growth through the Huawei Cloud platform and ecosystem.”

Meanwhile, at ‘HUAWEI CONNECT 2022,’ Huawei also announced the ‘Huawei Empower Program’ to support partners in developing the digital ecosystem. Through this program, Huawei will promote joint innovation with partners via OpenLabs, empower partners with new frameworks, new plans, and integrated platforms, and build talent pools through the Huawei ICT Academy and Huawei Authorized Learning Partner (HALP) programs. Additionally, Huawei plans to invest $300 million (approximately 422 billion KRW) in this program over the next three years to support global partners.
