Goheung-gun Makes All-Out Effort to Attract the 'National Maritime and Fisheries Museum'
Emphasizing Local Strengths as the Optimal Site for Attracting the Goheung Marine Fisheries Museum
[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] Jeonnam Goheung-gun (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that it has officially entered the competition to host the National Maritime Fisheries Museum.
The National Maritime Fisheries Museum is a Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries public project to build a complex maritime cultural facility including exhibition halls, experience centers, and education centers on a 42,500㎡ site with a national budget investment of 124.5 billion KRW.
Goheung is surrounded by the sea on three sides, with a passenger ferry between Goheung and Jeju, and the Naro Space Center located there. It is recognized as the best transportation hub connecting Gyeongsangnam-do and the eastern and western parts of Jeonnam. It is also noted for abundant linked tourist resources such as the Marianne Margaret Memorial Hall, a sanctuary of volunteerism, Sorokdo, and the National Youth Space Center, attracting increasing numbers of tourists every year.
The county is emphasizing that Goheung is the optimal site for hosting the National Maritime Fisheries Museum by leveraging its geographical advantages and diverse tourism resources, and is making every effort to win the competition.
In particular, to prepare the proposal according to the selection criteria for the Maritime Fisheries Museum, a TF team was formed early on, and a large-scale campaign for consent and cooperation in applying to host the National Maritime Fisheries Museum is being carried out targeting local institutions, social organizations, fisheries groups, and residents.
A county official said, “We will vigorously carry out hosting activities through public-private cooperation to attract the National Maritime Fisheries Museum and devote all efforts until the final site selection.”
