Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police Crack Down on 10 Illegal Activities at Camping and Glamping Sites
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has cracked down on camping site operators who conducted business activities without registration or violated related laws by operating unregistered lodging or food service businesses using buildings within camping sites.
The Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police announced on the 22nd that from the 29th of last month to the 2nd of this month, they inspected 20 camping and glamping sites in the province and found 10 sites (11 cases) violating the Tourism Promotion Act and other regulations.
Among the major cases, operator A ran a camping site without registering the camping business with the competent authority, and operator B was caught providing lodging to tourists using prefabricated buildings on the camping site without reporting a rural lodging business or lodging business to the competent authority.
Operator C, while running a camping site, installed playground facilities such as a bouncing trampoline and an air bounce within the camping site to attract family campers with infants and young children, but failed to report the operation as an "Other Amusement Facility Business" to the competent authority, resulting in a crackdown. If amusement facilities or equipment are installed and the area of the installed site is 40㎡ or more, a report of "Other Amusement Facility Business" must be submitted to the competent authority.
Operator D was found to have operated a cafe using buildings on the site without reporting a rest food service business to the competent authority.
Operating an unregistered rest food service business is punishable by imprisonment of up to 3 years or a fine of up to 30 million KRW. Operating an unregistered camping business and unreported lodging business each carry penalties of up to 2 years imprisonment or fines up to 20 million KRW. Additionally, operating an unreported other amusement facility business is punishable by up to 1 year imprisonment or a fine of up to 10 million KRW.

Kim Min-kyung, head of the Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police, said, "We hope this crackdown serves as a wake-up call to some operators who commit illegal acts due to lack of interest or knowledge about facility safety," adding, "We will continue to conduct inspections on easily overlooked matters to ensure safe outdoor activities and do our best to eradicate illegal activities."
