First Large-Scale Maneuver Fire Demonstration Applying Manned-Unmanned Combined Combat System
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] The Army held a large-scale mobile firepower demonstration event mobilizing advanced forces for the first time in four years. The manned-unmanned combined combat system, a core weapon system of future battlefields, was deployed for the first time, showcasing its might in front of domestic and international military and defense industry personnel.
On the 20th, the Army revealed the site of the large-scale mobile firepower demonstration training held at the Seungjin Science Training Center in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province. Planned as a pre-event for the Defense Industry Exhibition of the Republic of Korea (DX KOREA 2022), this demonstration was the largest ever in the history of DX KOREA events. It marked the first large-scale mobile firepower demonstration by the Army in four years since 2018.
In particular, the large-scale mobile firepower demonstration applying the 'manned-unmanned combined combat system,' a defense task promoted by the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, attracted attention as it was the first of its kind. Centered on the 8th Mobile Division and the manned-unmanned combined combat system demonstration brigade Army TIGER, the demonstration was conducted based on the manned-unmanned combined combat system. It involved 126 units of 23 major Army assets including rifle drones, suicide unmanned aerial vehicles, K808 wheeled armored vehicles, K2 tanks, K-9 self-propelled howitzers, K600 obstacle-clearing tanks, AH-64E Apache attack helicopters, and approximately 600 personnel.
The demonstration assumed a scenario where the mobile division conducted an offensive operation based on the manned-unmanned combined combat system. The staged operational process followed the Army’s ground operation concept of decisive integrated operations, including phases such as 'condition setting,' 'breakthrough,' and 'deep maneuver.'
