Ulsan Office of Education Announces Call for Schools to Participate in School Space Innovation 'Dadam' Project... Expanding to 7 Target Schools
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education will open applications for schools to participate in the 2023 Ulsan School Space Innovation ‘Dadam’ Project from the 20th of this month until October 10th.
The 2023 Ulsan School Space Innovation Project plans to expand the initiative from 5 schools in 2022 to 7 schools this year.
‘Dadam’ is the new name for the second phase of the Ulsan School Space Innovation Project, meaning “a Ulsan school space innovation project created together by the educational community to realize the sustainable reorganization of learning, life, and space centered on students who are the protagonists of the future society.”
Since 2019, the Ulsan Office of Education has been operating the school space innovation project for four years, investing a total of 6.2 billion KRW in construction costs across 29 schools.
The project is not simply about improving school facility environments but is promoted with five identities of Ulsan in mind: “healthy ecosystem, creation of learning culture and learning spaces, our school our Ulsan, learning community with the village, and happy companionship.”
Additionally, architectural experts hold consultations, training sessions, and workshops with school users such as students, parents, and staff to prepare learning activity support spaces.
Last year, nine schools participated in the project. Among them, Wolpyeong Elementary School created a space for learning, play, and rest by constructing a sky bridge, a sand playground, and a storage learning room centered around the warehouse between the main and annex buildings.
Du-gwang Middle School built a complex outdoor classroom in the school backyard where all students can gather for meetings, performances, and viewing even when it rains.
Seonggwang Girls’ High School transformed the unused 2nd and 3rd floors of the dormitory Dongbaek Hall into learning and resting spaces for operating the high school credit system.
