Gwangju University 2023 Academic Year Early Admission Records 4.24 to 1 Competition Rate
Benefits Provided Including Academic Encouragement Scholarships for First-Time Passers
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju University (President Kim Dongjin) recorded an average competition rate of 4.24 to 1, with 5,966 applicants competing for 1,407 spots in the 2023 academic year early admission application deadline.
According to Gwangju University on the 18th, looking at the competition rate by screening type, the regional student screening, which selects students 100% based on school records, had 2,249 applicants for 393 spots, recording a ratio of 5.72 to 1.
The general student screening, which reflects 30-40% of the interview test score, had 3,346 applicants for 941 spots, showing a competition rate of 3.56 to 1.
The competition rates by department for the regular admission screening (general students + regional students) were as follows: Nursing 6.79 to 1, Hotel Food and Culinary Arts 5.6 to 1, Beauty and Cosmetology 5.25 to 1, Early Childhood Education 5.05 to 1, and Police and Public Administration 4.95 to 1.
In particular, among the regional student screening departments with high competition rates, Early Childhood Education recorded the highest at 11.25 to 1, followed by Nursing at 11 to 1, Beauty and Cosmetology at 8.38 to 1, and Social Welfare and Health Administration at 7.67 to 1.
Gwangju University plans to conduct the general student screening interview test online in a non-face-to-face format on October 28 (Nursing department on the 28th and 29th).
Successful candidates for departments without the minimum CSAT score requirement will be announced on November 4, and those for departments with the minimum CSAT score requirement will be announced on December 13.
To reduce the living expenses burden for new students, Gwangju University plans to provide an academic encouragement scholarship of 700,000 KRW to early admission successful applicants and 400,000 KRW to those admitted through additional rounds.
In particular, to attract outstanding students, the university also operates the Hosinmaewon Special Scholarship, which is awarded differentially based on CSAT scores.
The Hosinmaewon Special Scholarship offers full tuition exemption for four years and full support for one overseas language training program selection if the average score of four CSAT subjects is grade 1, along with an academic encouragement scholarship of up to 4 million KRW.
Additionally, to motivate all applicants, scholarships and academic encouragement scholarships are provided up to CSAT grade 6 (grade 4 for the Nursing department).
Furthermore, for students receiving national scholarships, additional welfare scholarships are provided according to income brackets upon meeting academic standards, establishing a high-quality scholarship system to offer benefits to all new students.
For new students, the university supports the VIPS employment competency enhancement program, which takes responsibility from admission to employment after graduation.
