Volvo XC40, Reason Behind 2 Consecutive Years as Europe’s No.1 Premium Compact SUV
Enhancing Convenience with the Digital Connectivity Package
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Volvo Car Korea has recently attracted attention by officially launching the new XC40 model equipped with a digital connectivity package service in the domestic market.
The XC40 can be summarized as a sports utility vehicle (SUV) with maximized practicality. With a length of 4425 mm, it is not small for a compact SUV. It features a mild hybrid system, resulting in excellent fuel efficiency. These advantages are confirmed by the XC40's record of being the number one seller in the European premium compact SUV segment for two consecutive years, 2020 and 2021.
The digital connectivity package includes the TMAP infotainment service, jointly developed by Volvo Car Korea and TMAP Mobility with an investment of 30 billion KRW over two years specifically for the Korean market.
The new XC40, introduced in Korea after four years, is available with two powertrain options: the brand's first 100% pure electric powertrain (BEV) and a gasoline-based mild hybrid (MHEV).
The mild hybrid system (maximum output 197 horsepower, maximum torque 30.6 kg·m) consists of a 48-volt additional battery, an integrated starter generator (ISG), and a DC/DC converter. The electric motor provides approximately 14 horsepower of additional power and 4.1 kg·m of additional torque to support smooth driving.

Additionally, it improves fuel efficiency by about 10% compared to conventional internal combustion engines and reduces CO2 emissions by approximately 7 grams per kilometer. The two electric motors installed in the XC40 Recharge Twin model deliver maximum torque instantly the moment the pedal is pressed, boasting driving performance that accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds. Along with this, the One Pedal Drive, which controls both acceleration and deceleration with the accelerator pedal, supports a smooth and intuitive driving experience.
