Seoul G-Valley Industrial Museum Wins Main Prize at 'Red Dot Design Award'
Red Dot 'Brand & Communication' Exhibition Category Award Winner
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul city announced on the 16th that the "Media Library of the G-Valley Industrial Museum," Korea's first industrial museum, will receive the main prize at Germany's "Red Dot Design Award," considered one of the world's top three design awards. The award ceremony will be held in Germany on October 28.
Germany's "Red Dot Design Award" is one of the world's top three design awards alongside Germany's "iF Design Award" and the United States' "IDEA Award." It annually selects innovative products and works in fields such as product design, concept design, and brand & communication design.
The Media Library of the G-Valley Industrial Museum won the main prize in the exhibition category of "Brand & Communication." According to Seoul city, this signifies recognition of the excellence of the exhibition design that embodies the goals and meaning of the G-Valley Industrial Museum.
The G-Valley Industrial Museum contains the growth history from the Guro Industrial Complex to G-Valley. While the permanent exhibition, which collects and integrates 1,860 physical artifacts owned by citizens and companies, focuses on the history of industrial development from manufacturing to information and communication technology (ICT), the Media Library of the G-Valley Industrial Museum highlights the process of growth of various values held by G-Valley, such as the lifestyle of workers at the center of industrial history and the development of labor rights.
Meanwhile, the city is conducting research projects annually on five themes in addition to the archive materials accumulated during the establishment of the G-Valley Industrial Museum. To make the vast historical materials and the authenticity of over 60 years of G-Valley's history easily and interestingly accessible to visitors, the city plans to operate the Media Library.

Hwang Bo-yeon, Director of Seoul City's Economic Policy Office, said, "This Red Dot Design Award win is a global recognition of the G-Valley Industrial Museum's efforts to deliver G-Valley's industrial history to citizens in an easy and comfortable way." He added, "We will continue to approach citizens with exhibitions that incorporate new attempts and innovative perspectives to strengthen the function of the space that informs about G-Valley's industrial history as well as its representativeness as Korea's first industrial museum."
