CEO of Funeral Service Company Embezzling 650 Million Won Sent to Prosecution in Custody
Accomplice Under Investigation After Arrest Warrant Issued
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The CEO of Asan Sangjo, accused of deceiving a bank and embezzling approximately 650 million won of members' deposits, has been handed over to the prosecution.
On the 15th, the Seoul Songpa Police Station announced that on the 1st, they had sent CEO A of Asan Sangjo to the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office under arrest on charges of fraud and forgery of private documents. Employees of the funeral service company who assisted A were sent without detention on the same day.
A is accused of embezzling a total of about 650 million won in deposits by manipulating contract cancellation applications of funeral service members and submitting them to the bank over about one year starting from January 2019. The police investigation began last June when Shinhan Bank filed a complaint.

The police are pursuing accomplice B, who helped A commit the crime. A police official stated, "We believe the accomplice's charges are somewhat recognized and have obtained an arrest warrant," adding, "We will make every effort to apprehend B."
