Jumped into Water to Rescue Drunken Friend, Both Rescued by Coast Guard
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Jeonnam Yeosu Maritime Police Station (Chief Park Je-su) announced on the 13th that "after a friend who jumped into the water after drinking alcohol was unable to get out of the water together, the maritime police quickly rescued two drowning victims."
According to Yeosu Maritime Police, at around 4:05 a.m. that day, two drowning victims were struggling in the sea in front of Jonghwa-dong, Yeosu City, and a nearby resident discovered them and reported it.
Upon receiving the report, Yeosu Maritime Police dispatched the rescue team and coastal rescue boat, and the rescue team arrived at the scene within 6 minutes of the report, found the two drowning victims struggling in the sea, and quickly lifted and rescued them with the coastal rescue boat.
The rescued drowning victims, A (34 years old) and B (34 years old), were heavily intoxicated, and aside from hypothermia, they had no other health issues and were handed over to the 119 emergency medical team and transported to a nearby hospital.
It was confirmed that victim A fell into the water while heavily intoxicated, and friend B jumped into the water to rescue him but was unable to get out of the water together.
A Yeosu Maritime Police official said, "There is a high risk of falling into the sea at coastal harbors, ports, or piers, so special caution is required," and added, "If someone falls into the water, rather than attempting a direct rescue, it is better to report and throw buoyant objects nearby to prevent secondary accidents."
