"Beyond Conflict to Peace" Jeju Forum on Peace Economy of the Korean Peninsula Opens
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, together with the International Peace Foundation and the East Asia Foundation, will hold the 17th Jeju Forum to discuss the meaning, cases, and practical measures of coexistence and cooperation amid the Ukraine war and the US-China strategic competition.
On the 8th, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced that the Jeju Forum will be held under the theme "Beyond Conflict to Peace: Coexistence and Cooperation" from the 14th to the 16th for three days at the Jeju International Convention Center.
The first session, prepared jointly by the Jeju Province Seoul Headquarters and the Korean Peninsula Peace Economy Forum, is titled "Korean Peninsula Peace and Coexistence Attempted in the Sphere of Life ? Through the Example of the Construction of the Tumen River International United City." This session gathers experts from non-diplomatic and non-security fields to explore methodologies for creating active peace from passive peace. It proposes the construction of a multinational united city in the Tumen River basin where the international community can coexist and prosper together, attempting to shift the existing framework for viewing inter-Korean relations. The experts presenting aim to suggest concrete measures to achieve peace through new economic cooperation in the form of a multinational united city.
The second order of the forum features presentations on specific cities forming the multinational city. Architect Jin-woo Lee will present on "DATA CLOUD CAMPUS," focusing on the international financial hub city, the United States; architect Jung-yeon Park will discuss North Korea as a medical tourism city combining treatment, recovery, and recreation; architect Soo-young Choi will present on "K-Culture Street City," an entertainment-centered city in Korea; and Professor Geun-song Park of Changwon University’s Department of Architecture will concretize the Confucius City as a Confucian cultural experience city in China.
Additionally, Dr. Kang-taek Im, former director of the Korea Institute for National Unification, will participate as a discussant to engage in dialogue and exchange on the newly proposed inter-Korean economic cooperation plans from the perspective of an inter-Korean relations expert. Beyond the Seoul Headquarters session, this year’s Jeju Forum will feature various sessions analyzing the Ukraine war from multiple angles and forecasting the future international order. Numerous current leaders from Nobel Peace Prize-winning organizations, renowned overseas peace forums, and peace research institutes will participate, continuing diverse discussions under the vision of "Promoting Peace through Dialogue and Cooperation."
