Sacheon City Opens New Office for Hallyeohaesang National Park Headquarters
Construction of a 6.8 Billion KRW Government Building with a Total Floor Area of 2,174㎡ and 3 Above-Ground Floors
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The Hallyeohaesang National Park Office of the Korea National Park Service, which had been operating between Sacheon and Namhae in Gyeongnam, has established a new home in Sacheon Silan, the nation's top sunset spot.
On the afternoon of the 7th, the Hallyeohaesang National Park Office held an opening ceremony attended by about 50 people, including Park Dong-sik, Mayor of Sacheon, Ha Young-je, National Assembly member, Yoon Hyung-geun, Chairman of the City Council, Jang Chung-nam, Namhae County Governor, and Song Hyung-geun, Director of the Korea National Park Service.
The Hallyeohaesang National Park Office, which was located in Sangju-myeon, Namhae County, was flooded and closed due to a typhoon in 2014, and has since used a temporary office in Yonghyeon-myeon, Sacheon City.
However, this temporary office was small in area and lacked facilities, making it difficult to perform its duties.
In 2019, the Hallyeohaesang National Park Office signed a business agreement with Sacheon City and constructed a new office building with a total floor area of 2,174㎡ and three above-ground floors, with a project cost of about 6.8 billion KRW.
Construction began in May 2021 and was completed last June, and the office operates with 82 staff members.
Hallyeohaesang National Park was designated in 1968 as the second national park in Korea and the first marine park.
It is a treasure trove of marine ecosystems where large and small islands and pristine natural landscapes harmonize along a 300-ri sea route from Jisimdo Island in Geoje City, Gyeongnam to Odongdo Island in Yeosu City, Jeonnam.
The total area of the Sangju-Geumsan district, Namhae Bridge district, Sacheon district, Tongyeong-Hansan district, Geoje-Haegumgang district, and Yeosu-Odongdo district is 535.6㎢, with 76% being marine area.
The Hallyeo Waterway, known as the most beautiful sea route, boasts a landscape where 71 uninhabited islands and 29 inhabited islands are scattered like jewels.
