Minjoo: "Summoned by Prosecution Four Days After Lee's Inauguration... Immediately Stop Yoon Government's Political Oppression"
Emergency Party Meeting Held and Resolution Announced
"Petty Retaliatory Investigation Against the Main Opposition Party"
"Moon Government Targets Opposition Figures for Attack"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] The Democratic Party of Korea criticized the Yoon Seok-yeol administration's investigative offensive against party leader Lee Jae-myung, stating, "We will resolutely fight against the Yoon administration's political oppression and neglect of people's livelihoods." At the same time, they urged the Yoon administration to immediately halt political repression against the Moon Jae-in government and opposition figures.
All Democratic Party lawmakers held a party meeting at the National Assembly on the 5th and issued a condemnation statement. They said, "The Yoon administration's political repression is becoming increasingly blatant," adding, "This time, they summoned the leader of the main opposition party just four days after his inauguration, using the prosecution as the front."
They continued, "So far, Leader Lee has cooperated sincerely despite the prosecution's excessive investigations," and "There are numerous testimonies and facts clearly revealed through last year's national audit. However, the prosecution ignored all of these and resorted to petty retaliation against the main opposition party by nitpicking."
They also pointed out, "All policies of the previous government have become targets of political attacks," and "There has been persistent and blatant pressure for resignation against heads of institutions with guaranteed terms."
Regarding investigations into President Yoon and First Lady Kim Keon-hee, they said, "They are issuing self-exonerations of non-prosecution and no charges for their own crimes," adding, "This reflects the intention and concern of controlling investigative authority by the prosecution and police becoming a reality."
The lawmakers collectively stated, "The Republic of Korea is not a prosecution republic but a democratic republic," and criticized, "We will firmly stop the reckless rampage of the Yoon administration that damages democracy and tramples constitutional order together with the people."
Before a closed-door meeting that day, Leader Lee emphasized, "The Democratic Party will not hesitate to cooperate with the government for the people's livelihood. However, we will firmly oppose any attempts to regress democracy."

Floor leader Park Hong-geun also said, "The public surely knows where the bias of investigative agencies, which apply different standards to the ruling party and the defeated opposition, originates," and stated, "The Democratic Party will firmly stand against the Yoon administration's unjust political repression and fulfill its responsibility as the main opposition party in the National Assembly by ensuring legislation and budgets for the people's livelihood."
