The People Power Party passed the party constitution amendment, which clarifies the conditions for transitioning to an Emergency Response Committee, at the 4th National Committee meeting held at 10 a.m. that day.
According to the amendment, it is stipulated that an Emergency Response Committee will be established in cases of 'vacancy due to the resignation of the party leader,' 'vacancy due to the resignation of four or more out of five elected Supreme Council members and youth Supreme Council members,' or 'other cases where the Supreme Council unanimously agrees to establish an Emergency Response Committee.'
Additionally, the amendment includes provisions such as 'the floor leader and the chairperson of the Policy Committee are included as ex officio members of the Emergency Response Committee, and the chairperson of the National Committee is obligated to promptly proceed with the procedures for establishing the Emergency Response Committee.'
Furthermore, the amendment clarifies the status and authority of the Emergency Response Committee through regulations stating that 'the party leader is regarded as the Emergency Response Committee chairperson, Supreme Council members as Emergency Response Committee members, and the Supreme Council as the Emergency Response Committee.' The duration of the Emergency Response Committee is set to a maximum of six months, with the possibility of a one-time extension within six months upon approval by the National Committee.
Currently, among the five Supreme Council members along with former leader Lee Jun-seok, four members except youth Supreme Council member Kim Yong-tae have resigned, fulfilling the conditions for transitioning to an Emergency Response Committee with this amendment.
The People Power Party plans to hold a Standing National Committee meeting at 2 p.m. on the same day to vote on a proposal interpreting the current party situation as an emergency that allows for the establishment of an Emergency Response Committee based on the amended party constitution.
