[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Kakao Impact continues its project to support innovators who will lead social change.
Kakao Impact, Kakao's corporate foundation, announced on the 5th that it will launch Season 3 of the "Kakao Impact Fellowship" (hereafter Fellowship), which supports various social innovators in Korea.
The Fellowship is a project that selects and supports "social innovators" from various fields such as social ventures, non-profit organizations, activists, researchers, and creators, aiming to create social impact through investment in people. Since the start of Season 1 in February 2021, a total of 24 fellows have been selected and supported.
From this season, the foundation will jointly operate the program with the Brian Impact Foundation. The two foundations plan to collaborate to explore more diverse and extensive support methods for social innovators and to widely expand social impact that creates a better world.
Kakao Impact announced on its website the selection of a total of 15 social innovators as fellows for Kakao Impact Fellowship Season 3. Activists from various fields requiring awareness improvement and problem-solving in our society, such as minorities, abandoned animals, human rights, disabilities, diseases, and the environment, were selected. First-round candidates were selected based on public recommendations through the Fellowship website and recommendations from a network composed of experts and leaders from various fields, followed by additional selection procedures by an external advisory committee and a selection committee.
Selected fellows will receive a monthly activity allowance of 3 million KRW for two years to stably continue their social innovation activities and to promote the necessity and value of innovation. They will also be supported in producing online content and promotional channels based on Kakao platforms. In addition, networking support will be provided to enable greater synergy through communication with experts and innovators from various fields. The fellowship support period is initially two years, with one extension possible for up to four years.
