'Hinnamno' Inspection Meeting Year Han Deok-su "Education Offices and Principals, Please Consider Discretionary Holidays and Remote Classes"
[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Kim Hyewon] Prime Minister Han Duck-soo said on the 3rd, "Each education office and school principal should actively consider discretionary school closures and remote classes."
On the same day at 7 p.m., Prime Minister Han chaired a meeting to check the situation in preparation for Typhoon No. 11 'Hinnamnor' at the Government Seoul Office Building, stating, "Typhoon Hinnamnor, expected to be the strongest ever, is moving north toward the Korean Peninsula."
Prime Minister Han urged central government, local governments, and related agencies to make every effort to minimize damage, emphasizing five points.
He said, "City and provincial heads entering the typhoon's influence zone should actively communicate with citizens and the media, doing their best to inform about dangerous situations and specific action guidelines," and added, "Please inspect disaster-prone areas and risk factors in advance to minimize casualties and property damage."
He continued, "Since damage such as flooding in coastal lowlands, overturning of port cranes, and destruction of fish farms is expected, please prepare thoroughly for these as well." He also stressed, "Vulnerable groups and elderly people with mobility difficulties living in areas expected to be flooded may find it hard to recognize dangerous situations," and said, "Local governments should work with police, fire departments, and private organizations to ensure sufficient prior guidance."
Furthermore, he said, "Each education office and school principal should actively consider discretionary school closures and remote classes, and all agencies should make thorough efforts to protect essential facilities such as electricity, water, gas, transportation, and nuclear power."
