Jeongeup-si to Distribute 'Farmer and Fisherman Public Interest Allowance' Before Chuseok
[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City, Jeonbuk Province announced on the 2nd that it will pay the farmers' public interest allowance before Chuseok to ensure farm management stability and revitalize the local economy.
The city plans to pay 600,000 won per farm in Jeonghyangnuri gift certificates starting from the 6th to the eligible recipients of this year's Jeonbuk agricultural and fishery public interest value support project (hereinafter referred to as the farmers' public interest allowance).
This farmers' public interest allowance will total 6.69 billion won and is expected to be paid to 11,150 farms.
To facilitate smooth payment of the farmers' public interest allowance, the city promoted and accepted applications through each eup/myeon office and dong community center from February to April.
Starting this year, the recipients of the farmers' public interest allowance have been expanded from existing crop farming households to include beekeeping farms and fishing households.
The farmers' public interest allowance is paid in the local currency, the 'Jeonghyangnuri gift certificate.'
Those who have already been issued the Jeonghyangnuri gift certificate card will receive automatic payment, while those who have not yet been issued the card must obtain one.
Farmers who wish to receive the allowance before Chuseok can visit a local Nonghyup branch by the 31st of last month to get the card or issue it through the 'Local Gift Certificate chak' app.
The city verifies the compliance of farmers with the obligations required for receiving the allowance to protect the public interest value of agriculture.
If non-compliance or unsuitability is found upon verification, farmers who have received the allowance must return it. The obligations farmers must observe include ▲ proper use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides ▲ maintenance of beekeeping operations ▲ maintenance of fishery management functions.
Mayor Lee Hak-su said, “I hope the farmers' allowance will help farmers who strive to realize the public interest value of agriculture and sustainable farming,” adding, “The payment before Chuseok is expected to serve as an opportunity to revitalize the depressed local economy.”
