[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Ulsan City Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom will attend the ‘3rd Yeongnam Region Future Development Council’ held at the Komodo Hotel in Gyeongju at 4:40 PM on the 1st.
At the council meeting, Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom, along with Mayor Park Hyung-joon of Busan, Mayor Hong Joon-pyo of Daegu, Governor Lee Cheol-woo of Gyeongbuk, and Governor Park Wan-su of Gyeongnam, will jointly sign the ‘Agreement for a Local Era Where It Is Good to Live Anywhere in Korea’ to strengthen local decentralization and balanced regional development.
The agreement includes ▲joint response to easing regulations on new and expanded factory sites within the metropolitan area ▲joint response to global innovation special zone policies ▲mutual cooperation for the enactment of a special law for the construction of the integrated Daegu-Gyeongbuk new airport ▲joint cooperation for financial support to local governments near nuclear power plants ▲joint cooperation for the transfer of finances and authority from the central government.
At this council meeting, Mayor Hong Joon-pyo of Daegu is expected to be appointed as the next chairman. The chairmanship will rotate annually, with a one-year term.
An official from Ulsan City said, “We hope that the Yeongnam Region Future Development Council will serve as a focal point for enhancing regional competitiveness while addressing the drawbacks of metropolitan concentration, promoting balanced regional development and regional coexistence.”

The ‘Yeongnam Region Future Development Council’ was formed in August 2020 by the five mayors and governors of the Yeongnam region who share a commitment to national balanced development and regional coexistence, aiming to devise measures for Yeongnam to leap forward as a new economic center of Korea.
