[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Jeonnam Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced on the 29th that it has been selected for the '2022 Regional Tourism Transportation Improvement Project' contest hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization.
In this contest, conducted for metropolitan and basic local governments, Gyeonggi-do Paju City and Jeonnam Yeosu City were finally selected after the first document evaluation and the second on-site evaluation.
Accordingly, the city will invest a total project cost of 390 million KRW (50% national funds, 50% city funds) by the end of this year to establish a traveler-friendly tourism transportation network including departure and arrival guide videos for city buses, voice broadcasting transmission, and guide maps.
Plans also include providing multilingual information and electronic tourism transportation maps, and installing smart device charging stations at major transportation hubs. The specific project details will be finalized through consulting with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and tourism transportation experts.
A city official said, “Since the social distancing measures were lifted, the number of tourists visiting our city has been steadily increasing. With this contest selection, we will build various transportation convenience systems to enhance the satisfaction of tourists using public transportation.”
Meanwhile, the number of tourists visiting Yeosu City until the end of June this year reached about 5.16 million, an increase of 21.8% compared to the previous year.
